这株柏树生长在延安市黄陵县的黄帝陵，树龄约2300年，树高17米，胸围5.00米。相传，一心想成神仙的汉武帝刘彻，每到一处胜地都要筑台祈仙。在他造访黄帝陵当日，刘彻命18万大军连夜担土筑台，修起一座九转祈仙台。第二天旭日东升，汉武帝命令18万大军列队桥山，俯首默祭。武帝卸盔甲挂于此柏之上，然后独自登台祈仙，这就是后人所谓“十八万大军祭黄陵”。自此之后，汉武帝挂过盔甲的这棵柏树，周身上下斑痕密布，纵横成行，柏液中出，枝干皆然，成为桥山柏中独一无二的“挂甲柏”。特别是每年清明节前，古柏枝干上流出的柏液凝结为球，就像挂满了珍珠宝石，闪闪发光，晶莹夺目，吸引着各地前来谒陵拜祖的人们。
The pine stands in Yellow Emperor Mausoleum of Huangling County, Yan’an City. Han Emperor Wudi Liu Che would build estrade to ask for the blessing of God. When he visited Yellow Emperor Mausoleum, he decreed that an estrade needs to be built within the night. On the next day, 180 thousand soldiers accompanied Liu Che to pray for the Yellow Emperor. He took off armor and hung it on this cypress, so hence its name “Armor Cypress”. Before Tomb-sweeping day every year, sap issued from the trunk congeals into balls that look like sparkling jewel.
